The United States of America have reached the semifinals in the United Cup, and now await the winning team of the challenge between Italy and the Czech Republic. The Italians will take to the court against the Czechs today, Friday 3 January 2025, with the USA on the horizon as an obstacle for a possible final.
In their quarterfinal, the Americans beat China 3-0, led by Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz. With the elimination of Alexander Zverev’s Germany, the American team is a candidate, together with the Italian team and Poland, among the potential winners of the team tournament. At the press conference Coco and Taylor commented on their respective quarterfinals and are waiting for the winner of the match between Italy and the Czech Republic.
Fritz, analyzing his performance and the confidence he gained match after match, explained: “Today I served well, but I think that in general in the match I felt much calmer. In today’s match I thought more clearly than in the other. Surely the victory in the second match and the feeling of well-being today helped me.
It’s normal to have a bit of a break during matches and to arrive at the new season trying to improve each match and understand some things. I probably would have felt better if I had served the first match, in terms of confidence. But the fact that I won the last two matches makes me feel very good for Sydney.”
Gauff – instead – talked about the atmosphere she is experiencing during the event.
“I’m having a lot of fun. We have a great team, great emotions and we are excited that we managed to get to the next round of the tournament and hopefully we can make it to the end. I always want to win, so I wouldn’t say that the stakes are higher or lower.
I am definitely much more relaxed in the changeovers, I laugh a little more and I talk more. In general, things that you can’t do when you play a normal tournament. I think it’s nice to start the year with this relaxed atmosphere, especially after the off-season, which is quite quiet. Yes, I think it’s a good transition to our regular schedule,” she explained.
