Collin Morikawa on slowplay: You need to start fining people

Collin Morikawa, a famous name in the world of golf, wants to see changes in this sport, primarily when it comes to speeding up the game. The American golfer believes that the PGA Tour should follow the example of the LPGA Tour, which according to the new policies will fine a golfer who plays his shot one to five seconds longer than allowed. These rules should come into effect next month.

During the press conference before The Genesis Invitational, Morikawa addressed the fans, believing that this problem should be solved.

“With the aspect of the fans, I realise they’re complaining about slow play, but if you showed them more shots I don’t think they would complain about the slow play, right?” Morikawa said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“But it is an issue on the Tour. By no means is it something that should be looked over. It should be solved.”

Collin Morikawa: You need to start fining people

The PGA Tour player believes that fines would be the most effective means if one really wants to achieve the goal, which is speeding up the game. Frustrations among fans, as well as players, have been felt for a long time, considering that slowplay is a growing problem month by month.

PGA Tour officials have been looking into this problem, but have yet to come up with a concrete solution, nor is there any indication of one.

“Obviously you see what the LPGA’s doing. You need to start fining people. Look, if I got slapped on the wrist and got a fine, absolutely would I not want to be fined again.”- he continued.

Morikawa made a comparison between golf and the NBA, giving the example of technicals, stressing that some players are ok with being fined. Collin believes that if there is an identical persona on the PGA Tour, then let such a thing happen.

The popular golfer believes that someone must be the first fined, with such an example would be an important lesson for others.
