It had to happen! Daniil Medvedev is no longer a top-10 player, leaving the elite group following another setback at the Miami Masters. The Russian embraced 110 consecutive top-10 weeks since February 2023.
He owns respectable 273 top-10 weeks, standing close to Yannick Noah and Lleyton Hewitt. Medvedev claimed five ATP titles in the opening five months of 2023, including two Masters 1000 shields.
However, Rome remains his most recent ATP trophy, embracing a nearly two-year drought. To make things even more challenging, Daniil has not played in the ATP final since March last year!

After half a decade of high-quality tennis, the Russian lost the ground a bit in 2024. Medvedev embraced a 46-21 score and missed an ATP title for the first time since 2017! Daniil has also struggled with his motivation, displaying numerous tantrums on the court and creating a bad image around himself.
Medvedev played at a high level in the opening three months of the previous season. He lost the Australian Open final to Jannik Sinner from two sets to love up! He bounced back in March and reached the Indian Wells final and the Miami semi-final.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner kept him away from trophies, but they would have came later in the season had he maintained that level. Daniil collected nine wins on clay and reached the Madrid Masters quarter-final.
The Russian ousted Jannik Sinner in five sets at Wimbledon and reached the semi-final, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in four sets. Daniil experienced early losses in Montreal and Cincinnati before experiencing the US Open quarter-final defeat to Sinner.

Medvedev faced Alcaraz and Sinner in Beijing and Shanghai and collected more defeats against the young guns. The Russian fell to Alexei Popyrin at the beginning of the Paris Masters and left the ATP Finals with one victory.
Daniil needed a strong start to the 2025 campaign to maintain his top-10 status. However, the former Major champion in 12-7 this year after Miami, gathering 810 ATP points and leaving the elite company following the Miami Masters setback.
Learnen Tien stunned last year’s finalist in the Australian Open second round. Mattia Bellucci and Hamad Medjedovic provided more surprises in Rotterdam and Marseille, and things did not improve for Medvedev in Doha and Dubai.

Daniil reached his first Masters 1000 semi-final in almost a year in Indian Wells. He fell to Holger Rune and struggled with illness in the upcoming days. Medvedev failed to recover for Miami, taking only a couple of games against Jaume Munar in the second round.
Thus, the Russian lost points and ended his top-10 run after over two years. Daniil is already in Monte Carlo, preparing for the start of the clay season.
