In a conversation with Barbara Schett on Eurosport, the Australian coach Darren Cahill focused on Jannik Sinner’s victory (again finalist in this edition of the Australian Open 2025 – ed.) over Holger Rune, but also confirmed his farewell to the Italian’s team at the end of the season.
“He was perfect in managing the circumstance, I was sure he would give everything he had to win. For us the first thing is to work so that he evolves and grows. It’s not important who he plays against, but to put into practice what he has learned in training,” told the Australian.
Schett then wanted to move on to the hot topic of the moment, getting Darren to confirm the announcements made previously: “A coach is truly effective for a period of three, four or at most five years. The work that Simone Vagnozzi is carrying out is of incredible quality. Sinner is in very good hands and the successes will continue to arrive. What if a call came in the future? I will return only if you return to the court too!” said Cahill, mocking Barbara, who then concluded: “Okay, I don’t think that’ll ever happen!”

In a recent interview, Sinner let slip to the media that this year will be Darren Cahill’s last season as his coach. The Australian coach had declared that the Italian would be the last athlete with whom he would collaborate, but the date of his retirement and the end of his career was revealed only in recent weeks.
The Italian has joined the list of players that the 59-year-old from Adelaide, thanks to his incredible experience, has brought up to number one in the world. A merit to be shared – as the coach himself always underlines – with Simone Vagnozzi who has certified that he is a top-notch coach and can work with great champions. A special bond has been created with Sinner, also strengthened by the difficult moments experienced in recent years (among all the Clostebol case which is not yet closed at a judicial level).
