Elena Rybakina takes up driving lessons after viral moment with her Porsche supercar

Elena Rybakina has gotten behind the wheel and started taking driving lessons as the Kazakh tennis star may soon be able to drive the Porsche supercar she won a couple of months ago.

If you remember well, there was a bit funny situation during the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart in April. Usually, the winner there also collects the latest Porsche and gets to drive a lap around the court. In this case, it was a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.

But after ousting Marta Kostyuk 6-2 6-2, Rybakina wasn’t able to fulfill the tradition since she didn’t have a driver’s license. Instead, the 25-year-old got into the car and sat on the passenger seat while one of the tournament representatives took her for a lap.

However, not that the 2024 season is over, the 2022 Wimbledon champion hit up a driving school in Dubai.

“I just joined Galadari driving school and really happy to join and practice. I have a very strict instructor. But it is very nice experience and looking forward to my exam tomorrow,” Rybakina said in an Instagram video uploaded by the driving school.

Rybakina vowed to get a driver’s license after landing a Porsche supercar

After seeing the car that came also came as a prize for her Stuttgart win, the 25-year-old admitted that she didn’t a license to drive it but added that the new car was a motivating factor to soon get one.

“I actually don’t have a driver’s license. So it’s gonna be the goal, of course. I mean, I want it already for a long time, so that’s a good motivation,” the world No. 6 said following her Stuttgart triumh.

At the time, Rybakina also noted that being limited with time due to life on the Tour was the reason why she didn’t have a driver’s license yet.

“I wanted to do it already long time, but I never have chance to be at one place for long. I did already couple of lessons. I was driving, but yeah, for sure that’s the goal for this year outside of the court. And with this car, if I win, it’s going to be one double goal. Hopefully I finish it this year,” she said.

Rybakina hinted it would be taken to Dubai and revealed who’d drive it

Since the two-time Grand Slam finalist resides in Dubai, she figured out taking her Porsche there would be a good idea. Also, she hinted that it would be put to use but that it would probably be driven by her mom or now-former coach Stefano Vukov.

“Well, I don’t know yet (smiling). For sure I will drive it around, and we are thinking to have it in Dubai. So it’s going to be for sure Stefano driving, maybe my mom, hopefully me soon. So yeah (smiling),” Rybakina said.

Meanwhile, the Kazakh tennis star is also preparing in Dubai for the 2025 season with her new coach Goran Ivanisevic. After splitting with Vukov, the former world No. 3 shared at the WTA Finals that she hired Novak Djokovic’s ex-coach and that their partnership would officially start in the preseason.

“Really looking forward to this partnership. I think he’s a great champion and he has so much experience. I’m really looking forward to start (to work with him). Yeah, for me was important to get better. Of course, with the help of the agents we connected and just decided to start working. So I’m really looking forward,” she said in Riyadh.

When searching for a new coach, Rybakina had Ivanisevic high on her list and was very intrigued about the prospect of working with the coach who collaborated with Djokovic for six years.

“Well, I definitely wanted to work with him. I’m sure since he said yes he also, so… It’s just very interesting for me. I want to learn. Yeah, I’m just looking forward. As we just said, it’s something new for me. Also I’ve been with one coach for long time. I want to learn. Yeah, really happy and we will see what we can do together,” the Kazakh explained at the time.

After confirming the newest addition to her team, the 2022 Wimbledon winner also underlined that she would be on a mission to win a Grand Slam and reach the world No. 1 position in 2025.

“My goals are to win Slams, definitely, and the main goal is to become No. 1 one day. So, hopefully next year,” Rybakina said after beating Aryna Sabalenka in her last Round Robin match at the WTA Finals.
