Emma Raducanu ‘does not know’ what’s next for her after early Singapore exit

Emma Raducanu admitted she was unsure about her next plans after a disappointing Singapore exit but underlined that she was healthy and ready to compete again.

After missing Auckland due to a back injury and kicking off her season by reaching the third round at the Australian Open, the 22-year-old accepted a late wildcard to play in Singapore.

There, she was hoping to get some matches but also some wins.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen after Raducanu lost a first-round thriller as world No. 101 Cristina Bucsa won their first meeting 5-7 7-5 7-5 after three hours and five minutes of grueling play.

On the WTA Tour, February is usually reserved for the Middle East swing as that’s where the top players compete.

However, there will also be some indoor events in Europe but also tournaments in Mexico.

Raducanu: I don’t know what’s next for me

“To be honest, I don’t know what’s next for me. I feel like a lot of things kind of changed in the last week,” the world No. 56 said.

“So I think I just need to regroup and get some advice what [events] I should play next, but I’m ready to go pretty much straight away. I’m ready to keep building.

“I just have to take that positive [from the match] and, when I look at it practically, realistically and unemotionally, I think ‘okay, my level is improving’.

“I’m not actually sure what I’m going to do from here. It kind of depends what I play. I love Singapore though, as a place. It’s a shame I can’t stay here longer. It is what it is.”

Just days before starting her Singapore debut, Raducanu lost coach Nick Cavaday, who left her team to address certain health issues but also spend more time with his family.

A sudden change in her team is probably also one of the reasons why the British tennis player now needs to analyze what is the best move going forward.
