Emma Raducanu shares private WhatsApp message she received after new injury

Emma Raducanu is back on the practice court after an unlucky start to the year and will probably appreciate more being healthy going forward after a friend suggested in a WhatsApp that she may have started taking being fit for granted.

In case you missed it, the British tennis star was due to kick off her season at this week’s WTA 250 tournament in Auckland.

But on the day of her opening match, the former world No. 10 pulled out of the event due to a back issue.

Raducanu dealing with an injury isn’t anything new, considering that she battled numerous injuries early in her career and had surgical procedures on both wrists and her ankle a year and a half ago.

Since then, the 22-year-old has been in a much better position health-wise but there have still been some occasional niggles, like the one to start 2025.

“It’s funny you forget how much for granted you take being fit is & only remember when you’re on the sidelines again,” the message that the 2021 US Open champion received read.

While dealing with an injury early in the year wasn’t ideal, the good news is that the Briton’s Australian Open appearance doesn’t seem to be in doubt since she is already in Melbourne and putting up work.

Since hiring Maria Sharapova’s former fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura, the 22-year-old has highlighted several times that one of her main goals for 2025 is to stay healthy and play a lot more than in previous seasons.

So far, that hasn’t been the case.

However, we are at just the start of the year and Raducanu can only hope that this back injury won’t become a nagging issue and something that will trouble her for an extended period.
