Ex-Australian Open tournament director destroys post slandering Jannik Sinner

Paul McNamee won’t tolerate seeing any Jannik Sinner slander on his X timeline as the former Australian Open tournament director suggests the Italian deserves more respect for what he has been able to achieve over the last year and a half.

After winning his first two Grand Slams last year, the 23-year-old also kicked off his 2025 season by successfully defending his Australian Open title. And he did it while facing uncertainty regarding his doping case and not knowing how his CAS trial scheduled for April would go.

But after it was announced last month that Sinner and the WADA settled on a three-month doping ban which would end on May 4th, the chances of the Italian missing any Slams due to a doping ban automatically ended.

McNamee comes to Sinner’s defense

“Imagine being suspended for 3 months and STILL winning the calendar year grand slam. It feels like a very realistic possibility at this point,” an X post published by Swish Tennis read.

McNamee, who served as tournament director for the Australian Open between 1995 and 2006, wasn’t impressed by the post at all, writing: “You’re an embarrassment, with no respect for the huge efforts and greatness of those who came closest, like Martina Navratilova, Serena Williams, Lew Hoad & Novak Djokovic. Given I don’t follow you & I received this, I will block you.”

While Sinner avoided missing the French Open, winning a Grand Slam after a lengthy absence definitely won’t be an easy thing to do. However, one thing is for sure – no one will take the top-ranked male player for granted even in those circumstances.
