Rory McIlroy is feeling the pressure of the Masters, a tournament he strives to win year after year. Although the Northern Irishman has failed in his plan, many believe he can achieve such success this year. Dealing with such pressure is not easy, but it seems that Rory has matured as a golfer, being ready to make history this year.
Dr. Bob Rotella, a famous sports psychologist, in an interview for one of the podcasts, pointed out that Rory’s great form can make everyone happy, including him, but that it can also bring pressure. Rotella was delighted with McIlroy’s games, saying that it is a big step towards success.
“Are we really glad that he did it? Yeah,” Rotella said, as quoted by Belfast Telegraph.
“Might it be helpful? Yeah. Might it have put on more pressure? Yeah. It’s all about getting in the right state of mind at the Masters.
“But yeah, it’s a really good thing, and we’re thrilled that he did it. I loved how he played and where he got his head… It’s another step in the right direction.”

Rotella, on the other hand, stresses that regardless of whether Rory succeeded in his plan, his career is just as impressive and great. The main goal is to take the pressure off him, which, it must be admitted, is enormous. When you are a golfer of such quality, there are huge expectations on your back, and dealing with it can be challenging, even for those who have been on the golf scene for years.
McIlroy seems to have a different mindset this year.
“But, you know, we’re probably going to spend as much time talking about the fact that whether you win the Masters or don’t, you’re going to have an unbelievable career.”- he said.
The well-known sports psychologist noted that the Northern Irishman has improved in various aspects of the game, which gives hope and optimism that this year’s Masters will be a great chance for him.
