Footage shows McIlroy’s caddie making key decisions before the US Open collapse

Last year’s US Open still leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of Rory McIlroy fans. Although the Northern Irishman was close to lifting the curse and finally winning the Majors, a mistake he made on the final tee shot ruined his plans. The main character of this story is also Rory’s caddie, Harry Diamond.

Many pointed the finger at him, considering him one of the culprits, stressing that he was not more decisive in his choice of club on the final holes.

Rory, however, showed that he is a great golfer, standing up for his caddie immediately after the tournament.

Netflix’s Full Swing: Their conversation

Netflix’s Full Swing has revealed new details, attracting the attention of golf fans. It is known that Bryson DeChambeau took advantage of the mistakes that the 35-year-old golfer made, winning the US Open. New footage, this time from the Netflix series, shows a conversation between the two.

McIlroy told his caddie during the tournament:

“Three-wood is just not getting there. I am sort of seeing the driver,” McIlroy said, after which Diamond replied: “OK, why not. Just put it in play.”

His decision to use the driver proved fatal for the experienced golfer, provoking a variety of reactions among golf experts, stars, colleagues, and fans.

Many seemed eager to criticize Harry Diamond, who found himself in an unenviable situation.

Hank Haney, Tiger Woods’ former coach, was particularly vocal in his criticism of Rory’s caddie, believing that McIlroy’s former caddie would have made a much better decision, which would ultimately resulted in the Northern Irishman’s victory.

However, it is too late for analysis and criticism now, as Rory should already be focusing on 2025 and the challenges that lie ahead. Perhaps this year will offer something completely different for him.

The Northern Irishman admitted that he wants to finally lift the Majors trophy this year, and many believe he will succeed.
