Jannik Sinner has overcome almost every challenge he has faced in the last twelve months and seems increasingly unstoppable. The world number 1 could have been seriously affected by the doping case, instead he continued to win relentlessly, increasing the gap between himself and his main rivals.
The Italian ace started 2025 in style by winning his third Grand Slam title, thanks to a near-perfect run at the Australian Open.
The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria is very competitive on all surfaces, but his superiority is really clear on hard courts where his opponents have no weapons against him. The way Jannik defeated current world No. 2 Alexander Zverev in the AO final is emblematic of this concept, with the German player not having a single break point in the entire match.
A total supremacy
Except for Carlos Alcaraz – who is not going through the brightest moment of his career – no one seems able to stop the world number 1. Fans and insiders are seriously convinced that he can achieve the ‘Calendar Grand Slam’, even if the main obstacle will be Roland Garros.
In a long interview with ‘L’Equipe’, former ATP ace Nicolas Escudé analyzed Sinner’s supremacy in detail: “Jannik had a health problem during the match against Rune in Australia, but he still managed to win by dominating the third and fourth sets. I think the only way to beat him right now is to keep his pace from baseline and extend the match, so we can make a difference physically.
The Italian champion does not have such a brilliant record in long matches. I know it’s not easy, but it seems to me the only strategy to put him in trouble nowadays.”
The 3-time Grand Slam champion – who has suffered just six defeats from January 2024 to date – will return to action in the second half of this month in Doha.
The Italian ace was also supposed to play the Rotterdam ATP 500 in February, but preferred to skip this tournament to rest.
