Former footballer comments on Jannik Sinner’s doping case and quotes Novak Djokovic

The doping case relating to Jannik Sinner is not closed and the world number 1 is waiting to know his fate. The trial before the CAS in Lausanne will take place in mid-April, but it may take further time before the sentence is issued.

Despite this case that began in March 2024, the Italian ace was able to continue playing without any problem although he was subjected to a lot of stress. His rise in the last twelve months has been truly impressive, with nine titles won from January 2024 to date and just six losses suffered.

According to some players and insiders, it is not fair that the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria was able to compete despite a pending judgment on him.

This doping case was only made public when ITIA proclaimed Jannik’s innocence shortly before the start of the 2024 US Open.

The controversy seemed closed, until WADA announced its decision to appeal against the acquittal sentence by opening a new trial before the CAS in Lausanne.

Matt Le Tissier surprises everyone

Regardless of what the ruling of the CAS in Lausanne will be, many believe that Sinner has benefited from preferential treatment by the authorities due to his status as world number 1.

Through his official profile X, former footballer Matt Le Tissier shared an interesting reflection on this topic.

In his opinion, Novak Djokovic – if he had been in the same position as Sinner – would have been treated much worse by the media and insiders.

“Imagine Djokovic had failed a drugs test and then won the Australian open while the investigation is still ongoing, do you think he would have had the same fawning coverage from mainstream media? No, me either” – he wrote.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion has always been a very divisive and polarizing character. Recently, the Serbian legend was criticized due to his left thigh injury that forced him to retire during the semi-final of the 2025 AO.

The former world number 1 was booed when he exited the RLA.
