Jannik Sinner’s level has been impressive in the last twelve months, especially on the hard courts, allowing the Italian to win the last three Slams played on this surface and to establish a real dominance.
The world No.1 has lost just six matches since January 2024, including three against his great rival Carlos Alcaraz, while his last defeat dates back to the Beijing ATP 500 final in October 2024. In the months that followed, the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria won the Rolex Shanghai Masters, the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin and started the new season by lifting his second trophy in a row at the Australian Open.
Sinner’s AO run was dominant
His run at Melbourne Park was so dominant that it made the first Major of 2025 a bit of a boring tournament. Jannik did not lose a set in either the semifinals or the final, giving the feeling of being much superior even to the current world number 2 Sascha Zverev.
Everyone knows that Alcaraz is the player who has the most weapons to put the 3-time Grand Slam champion in difficulty, but the young Spaniard is still not enough to be a ‘factor’ for the duration of the season.
Carlitos still has several ups and downs during the year, which is why fans and insiders are wondering whether or not they will have to get used to Sinner’s undisputed dominance in the near future.
Speaking on Eurosport, former world number 10 Arnaud Clement reflected on this topic: “Novak Djokovic dominated the men’s tour for a long time and I found it a fabulous time, although several fans disagree with me and think it was boring. Jannik Sinner is far superior to all the other players on the hard courts right now, but we know that Alcaraz is capable of countering him. There is a great rivalry to tell.”
The Spaniard will return to action in Rotterdam next week, while the world No.1 will be rested until the Doha ATP 500.
The 21-year-old from Murcia is also registered for the Doha tournament, while Nole Djokovic’s presence is very uncertain due to the injury to his left thigh suffered by the Serbian in Australia.
