A recent survey conducted in the United States has confirmed that the unpleasant side of our sport knows no borders. There are golfers there who are unfair to say the least. But how widespread is this behavior? The magazine NationalClubGolfer asked its readers and the result is surprising: six out of ten say they know someone who cheats on the course. Let’s discover together the most incredible stories of cheats in golf made in the USA.
The results of the questionnaire are worrying: out of 3,250 readers, over two thousand know that golf cheats exist in their club. Some get away with it because no one has yet caught them with a rat in their mouth. Someone else has been caught out. Still others continue to make their own scores as if nothing had happened, not caring about anything or anyone.

The Facebook page of the US newspaper provides details on what they mean overseas by golf cheats.
It is up to a user named Roy to break the ice. The American player talks about “a ball with the writing 66 and the initials that ended up in the bushes. Despite all the players looking for it, the ball seemed to have disappeared. Shortly after, the owner found it thirty meters further on, in an area where no one had ever dreamed of exploring. Possible? Never say never, of course. Too bad that one of us, returning to the bush, did not see a ball with that writing 66 and those same initials. None of us three signed that scorecard at the end of the day”.
The story revealed by Graham is also a classic: “A golfer had gone into the woods looking for his yellow Vice and then came out with a white Titleist. The explanation? We were confused about the type of ball he declared and used”.
Almost banal is a third story from another US club. “I was waiting my turn to hole out on hole 5. While waiting – writes Billy Wright – I looked back and noticed a golfer, a member of my club, kicking a ball forward that had ended up too close to the trunk of a tree. As if it were nothing to him. I screamed, he noticed and went away. We never saw him again at the club.
And so on with many tricks to cheat in golf. Alan remembers when “one of my playing companions rejoiced at having found his ball that he thought was lost in the rough. Too bad that the one he actually played was under my foot”.
Again? “I hit it badly and my ball ended up who knows where. Three holes later – we read on social media signed by D LuxGolf Tour – a member of my team played a provisional. Not a random one but the one I had lost shortly before. I was marking it. I refused to sign his score”.
