Grayson Murray shocked the public last year by committing suicide. After his death, many messages followed, filled with sadness and helplessness.
Grayson Murray had suffered from depression for years, openly talking about it many times.
Grayson Murray’s parents, in an interview with Today, reflected on their son’s death, emphasizing that it is a nightmare that still does not end.
“It’s a nightmare, and it doesn’t stop,” Eric told Today, as quoted by Miami Herald.
His father stressed that Murray fought with this mental illness, not wanting to give up. He did everything he could, but unfortunately, it ended tragically.
“He tried to get better,” Eric said. “He did everything he could.”
Addictions
Grayson became addicted to alcohol as a means of combating depression, but this only deepened the already existing problems. Terry stressed that he had various ways of fighting depression, but mostly they were negative defense mechanisms such as alcohol and gambling.
The famous golfer obviously had huge problems from day to day, and gambling and alcohol were a way to escape from the reality that pressed him.
“He would go and drink and gamble. That was tough for him out on the road.”- she said.
Terry said Murray would try to be positive after coming to home. Grayson would try to have a smile on his face, but he would go to his room and not come out for two or three days.
Grayson battled demons in his head day after day.
Eric revealed a particularly emotional moment when he sat on the sofa with his son, crying together. Grayson couldn’t bear the emotional pain.
“We sat on the sofa and we both sat there and cried,” he said. “I was holding him like a baby. He was talking about how hard it was physically and emotionally to keep doing what he’s doing.”
