Holger Rune has chosen a part-time coach (or, if you prefer, an interim) for the Asian Tour that includes his participation in Hangzhou, Tokyo and the Shanghai Rolex Masters. Rune’s program includes this week the ATP 250 in Hangzhou, then next week the Japan Open in Tokyo (ATP 500), then the Asian Tour will end with the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, with the final on October 13th.
For this phase of the season, the Danish tennis player has in fact announced the entry into his team of 44-year-old Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh, who in the past has also been the coach of Dominic Thiem and Stan Wawrinka.
As stated by TV2 Sport Denmark, Rune would have motivated the choice after the frenetic period he experienced between Wimbledon and the US Open.
“During the Hangzhou Open and the upcoming tournaments in Asia, I have Benjamin Benny Ebrahimzadeh with me as a coach. After a hectic period after Wimbledon with many weeks in the United States, Kenneth Carlsen is in Denmark and is taking a break. I trained with Benjamin, in Monaco. It was a good training session, where we worked intentionally on some areas of my game that I have been struggling with in the last few months. Now I can’t wait to get into the match and test the things I have been working on. I am optimistic and believe I can close the year well and hope for a strong final sprint to get to the ATP Finals in Turin,” he explained.

Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh has also worked at WTA level with Angelique Kerber, Victoria Azarenka and Andrea Petkovic. According to information from TV 2 Sports, Kenneth Carlsen will return to personally follow Rune in the indoor tournaments in Europe at the end of the year. So it is a limited-time option.
He will then take part in the 6 King Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia which does not give points for the ATP ranking. Then, to chase a place in the top 8 in Turin, he will play in Basel and Paris-Bercy between the end of October and the beginning of November. Should it be necessary to qualify for Turin, Rune could also add the 250 in Metz.
