Holger Rune gave an interview to Tennis365 in which he spoke about his career, focusing – with great honesty – on the mistakes he made in the past. The Dane attended the UTS, an exhibition event in London organized by Patrick Mouratoglou, but found time to confide his feelings.
“It has been a very challenging few years. It all happened very quickly for me and it was nice but at times it was also stressful, especially when I started playing badly at the end of 2023. Now I am back on a better path. Now I am not looking too much at what happened in the past, but more at what is happening now and in the future because that is what I can control,” he explained.
The interviewer asked the Dane if he thinks he hasn’t prepared himself properly these past two years.
“I can only blame myself because the decisions were all made by me. Every coach I had and every person I had did the best they could for my tennis. The important thing is to have the right people in your team who can give me what I want to improve my game and I feel like I have that now.
Sometimes when you win, you think you should train the same way, but everyone else trains much harder because they want to beat you. I always believed in myself, but in the last year and a half I didn’t do the right work. Now I’m doing the right work and I hope the results will come. Without tennis, training and the mental aspects that we are working on, all this will not happen. Everyone can say they want to win a Slam, but you have to give it your all,” he said.

Holger then talked about his expectations for the future and the upcoming commitments of his career.
“It’s difficult in some ways, but it’s also great. You can look at it in two different ways. You can say there’s a lot of pressure, or you can say it’s amazing that people believe in me and have high expectations for me as a player. This is my dream and we’re living it,” he added.
