Holger Rune took to social media to directly tell his fans about the date of his first-round match at the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam but then one person told him that he wasn’t interested in watching a Grand Slam match.
On Monday evening, the Rotterdam organizers released their order of play for Tuesday and it was revealed that the fifth-seeded Dane would play against Lorenzo Sonego on Tuesday, 9pm local time.
After learning about it, the 21-year-old wanted to make sure that his fans would know about it.
“Playing my first round in Rotterdam, last match on center court tomorrow. See you,” Rune wrote on X.
One person responded by directly telling the 21-year-old that he wouldn’t watch it because it was a non-Slam match: “I’m not watching tennis outside Grand Slam, sorry.”
While some would maybe call out the person in question, the former world No. 4 didn’t want to do that.
Instead, Rune tried to convince them to give it a shot because it could be “fun.”
“You should. It’s fun. Can be,” he said in his response.
You should. It’s fun . Can be 😜

Rune left the past behind him
After failing to elevate his game to a new level in 2023 and 2024, the 2021 Paris Masters winner said that he didn’t want to think anymore about what happened in the past.
Instead, he is focused on the present and how he can get to where he wants to be.
“Now I am back on the right path. I don’t focus on what happened in the past, but on what is happening now and in the future,” Rune said last week.
“That is what I can control. On the one hand, there was a lot of pressure after winning a big tournament and Djokovic in the final, but on the other hand you can look at it in a different way and say it’s amazing that people trust my tennis and have high expectations for what I can do.”
The Dane hasn’t won an ATP title since 2023 April so winning the Rotterdam title would certainly be exactly what the doctor ordered.
