Hovland: There’s no point in playing tournaments if I can’t hit the shots correctly

Viktor Hovland cannot be happy with his form, considering that he missed the third consecutive cut after a disastrous performance at The Players Championship. Looking at the performances of this 27-year-old, it is noticeable that Hovland doesn’t have the necessary confidence, having many problems with technique.

Speaking about the problems, Hovland stressed that driving is an aspect in which he has not excelled recently. In addition, the putting was also poor, although Hovland noticed a little progress.

“I had some awful drives, and they happened at the wrong timings,” Hovland said, as quoted by Athlon Sports

“The bad shots that I hit ended up in waters or in a bush where I had to take an unplayable, so and on top of that, I putted it horrendously, and today I putted much better.”

Interesting plans

The 27-year-old decided to return to the old technique and style of play, saying that it is very difficult to develop old/new habits. Although he noticed the improvement, Viktor admitted that it will take some time to get back in shape. The most important thing for him is that he realized where he was wrong, ready to open a new chapter and be the great golfer we are used to seeing.

“It’s a mechanical thing, and 100% of it’s just hard for me to get out of that habit of what I’m doing right now,” Hovland said. “It’s a process, and I’ve already seen good improvements just the last week, but it’s gonna need some time and work to get it back to what he used to be.”

Hovland explained that he is currently working on improving his technical skills to get back to a level where he can predict the trajectory of the ball. The 27-year-old stressed that he has seen improvements during training, which gives him hope, because he believes that if he can’t hit shots properly in training, there is no point in participating in tournaments.
