Will Nick Kyrgios be able to play the 2025 edition of the Australian Open after the wrist problems highlighted at the Brisbane International?
The Australian tennis player was able to fight on equal terms with a top 30 opponent like Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard – one of the most powerful and difficult to counter on the entire tour – losing only after three hard-fought tie-breaks at the ATP 250 in Brisbane.
The decent performance, however, left some doubts about the condition of his wrist that forced him to 18 long months of absence from competition. The 29-year-old suffered problems again during the challenge, bandaging it on one occasion due to the discomfort he was feeling. A rather significant alarm in view of the most anticipated commitment at the Australian Open, scheduled for January 12.

At the press conference, the Canberra athlete confirmed his concern in a certain sense:
“I’m really super excited about playing the Australian Open. If I’m ready to play, I will. But today I also faced reality,” he revealed.
Nick did not question his participation in the future doubles matches with Novak Djokovic in Brisbane, the next one scheduled for Wednesday against the number one draw players Mektic and Venus. At the end of the tournament, Kyrgios highlighted how he will return to his homeland to prepare for the Slam and above all decide if he is in a condition to take the court. A withdrawal would be quite hard to stomach for a player who has already admitted not having well-defined plans after the Australian events.
Nick Kyrgios appears to be feeling discomfort in the same wrist he had surgery on in his match against Mpetshi Perricard in Brisbane.

We recall Nick is one of the most anticipated stars at the Australian Open, especially after the months of accusations launched against Jannik Sinner, after the Italian was hit by the Clostebol doping-scandal. The two could theoretically meet face to face right in Melbourne.
