Carlos Alcaraz is undoubtedly the leader of the new generation along with Jannik Sinner.
The Italian ace has performed better than the Spanish champion in the last year, but the 21-year-old from Murcia has more charisma and his game is perhaps the most complete ever at the moment.
As if that were not enough, Carlitos has already won four Grand Slam titles and five Masters 1000, becoming the youngest player ever to triumph at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season (2024).
The former world No.1 is looking to pull off another feat this week as he dreams of winning his third title in a row at Indian Wells. Only two legends like Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have reached this prestigious milestone before him and Carlos seems to be on his way to doing it.
Despite the change of surface after 25 years and all the controversy that came with it, Alcaraz has not been affected so far and has reached the round of 16 without losing a single set. The current world number 3 has easily dismissed both Quentin Halys and Denis Shapovalov, proving to have a very special feeling on these courts.
The very high rebounds tend to enhance the Spaniard’s game, which has been literally dominant in the last two editions of this tournament.
Alcaraz will become even more mainstream
The most attentive fans have noticed these days that there is a date tattooed on Carlitos’ arm: 23-4-25. This is the day Netflix has chosen for the release of the three-episode documentary starring Alcaraz, which was filmed during the 2024 season.
This highly anticipated docu-series – written by Edu Salan and Jorge Laplace – was directed by the latter and promises to make Carlos an even more mainstream character.
The 4-time Grand Slam champion must stay focused on the first Masters 1000 of the season and be ready for the next match, which will see him opposite to Grigor Dimitrov.
The Bulgarian veteran didn’t start the season brilliantly, but he did beat Alcaraz at both the 2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters and the 2024 Miami Open.
