2025 will be Novak Djokovic’s 22nd season on the professional tour. Despite all his victories, the former world No. 1 has no plans to retire yet and is aiming to break new records next year.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion has never been afraid to push his own limits and compete with opponents much younger than him, further testimony to how much Nole really loves the sport. The 37-year-old from Belgrade has promised that he will continue to play at the highest level as long as he feels motivated and competitive, a feeling he also conveyed in 2024 thanks to his resounding victory at the Paris Olympics.

After winning the gold medal, Novak promised that he will also try to participate in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 (when he will be 41 years old). There is no doubt that 2025 will be a very important year for the continuation of his career, especially if he fails to win another Grand Slam title. The current world number 7 has not won a Major title since the 2023 US Open and has not particularly shone this year, reaching the final only at Wimbledon and losing decisively to Carlos Alcaraz for the second time in a row.
Djokovic is trying all the solutions to return to the top of men’s tennis and has chosen his former rival Andy Murray as coach for the 2025 Australian Open. The collaboration between these two legends could give new motivation to the Serbian ace, who will start the new season in Brisbane next week.
The former world No. 1 has promised that the number of his tournaments will be higher in 2025 and that tennis is still at the top of his list of priorities. In some ways, Nole is the latest member of the older generation after Rafael Nadal’s retirement last month.
Update on Djokovic’s future
Many fans and insiders wonder how long the legend will continue to play from Belgrade. Djokovic has broken almost all records and it is not easy to find new motivation at his age. In the last few hours, the well-known analyst Jon Wertheim has provided a very important update on Novak’s future.
His agent Mark Madden won the ATP’s Agents Committee election, with a term of two years. That should mean the 24-time Grand Slam champion has no plans to leave the professional tour anytime soon.
The former world No.1 will make his debut in Brisbane at the beginning of January and will play both singles and doubles. Nole will be joined by Nick Kyrgios in doubles, with the Australian ace returning to the ATP tour after almost two years of absence. The Serbian and the Australian didn’t have a good relationship until 3 years ago, but they became friends after the final of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.

Before the start of the tournament, Nick talked about Novak: “I mean, you’re acting like I’m not a decent tennis player. Like, I’ve beaten the guy twice. Look, he’s an amazing player, the greatest ever to play the court. I wouldn’t say I’m going out there and, ‘Oh, my God, Novak, you’re the best. Please give me advice.’ I’m not like that. I’m just going to go out there, have some fun.”
He also added: “I think I actually help him more because he’s got to the point in his career he wants to obviously have a bit of fun. You don’t get to a position like that and you don’t get to have a career like that without serious discipline day in, day out. Now he’s starting to have a bit of fun. Obviously employing Andy Murray as his coach. He is looking for a change. He’s playing doubles with arguably the most controversial tennis players.”
Nole is still a contender
Djokovic’s goal is to be 100% fit for the start of the Australian Open, scheduled at Melbourne Park from 12 to 26 January. The 37-year-old from Belgrade will try to win his 11th title at the AO, where he wrote a piece of tennis history. Although he is no longer in his prime, no opponent will be able to afford to underestimate the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

In a recent interview with ‘Tennis365’, French veteran Gael Monfils revealed his main favorites in Melbourne: “You look at Carlos, Jannik, Alexander Zverev and all the top ten will be contenders in Melbourne, but the top two will be Jannik and Carlos.
Novak is still a contender for the Australian Open. Of course he can win one more Grand Slam in his career and why can’t it be in Australia, where he has won it so many times? 11? That’s just amazing.”
