Jack Draper rips ATP schedule, casting doubt on generation’s longevity

Great Britain failed to qualify for the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, also due to the tight schedule that leaves no respite for tennis players, as Jack Draper explained.

The US Open semi-finalist shared the harsh criticism, analysing how it is too quick a change to go from the courts of Flushing Meadows to those of Manchester.

“It is too quick a change, on Friday I was on court at Flushing Meadows and a week later I am again for Davis. Many in my place would not have played but I love representing my country. Even though my team advised me against playing in Manchester, I showed up anyway because I wanted to play,” he said.

“It’s a mental calendar. I think it’s going to be very difficult for players my age to achieve longevity again. If you look at how many tournaments I’ve played this year, 25-26, my first full year on tour. It’s really tough, with my team wanting the best for me, wanting me to be injury-free and looking after my body and my mind. There’s literally no break. It’s really demanding mentally and physically,” he added.

Hosts Great Britain, who hosted one of the four groups in Manchester, failed to qualify for the Davis Cup Finals. On the final day of competition, the English failed to achieve the feat of beating top-seeded Canada 3-0, suffering a tough defeat already at the end of the singles matches.

The team led by captain Leon Smith was the only one not to take advantage of the home advantage: excluding Zhuhai, where China is not present, Italy and Spain have already secured participation in the final stages of the event in November.longevityalready secured participation in the final stages of the event in November.
