Jannik Sinner arrives in Beijing and tries to speak Chinese

After his win at the 2024 US Open, Jannik Sinner’s season continues with the ATP 500 in Beijing. This tournament evokes beautiful memories in the mind of the world’s number 1, who won in China last year beating Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals and Daniil Medvedev in the final. That triumph started his splendid season finale, in which he also won the ATP 500 in Vienna and the Davis Cup together with his Italy.

The 2024 of the Italian ace has been simply crazy until this moment. Despite some physical problems during the spring and a delicate doping case, the 23-year-old from San Candido has won two Grand Slam titles and two Masters 1000 this year. Jannik has a formidable record of 55 wins and only 5 losses in 2024, which is testament to his incredible consistency throughout the season. The two-time Grand Slam champion has over 4000 points of advantage on his first opponents in the ATP ranking and is almost certain to finish the year at the top of the ATP ranking for the first time in his young career.

Just before flying to China to play in the Asian tournaments, Sinner announced that Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio had joined his team after Umberto Ferrara and Giacomo Naldi were sacked due to the doping case. Jannik will have to defend a lot of points in the last part of the season, but his style of play is perfectly suited for these tournaments.

Sinner arrived in Beijing

The last effort to close an amazing season. It’s time for the Asian campaign for the world number one Jannik Sinner, who is already sure of a place at the ATP Finals in Turin, preparing for his next commitments. The Italian tennis player has landed in China, ready to participate in the ATP 500 in Beijing, a tournament that he won last year by beating Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals and Daniil Medvedev in the final act with a double 7-6.

Jannik was welcomed at the airport of the Chinese capital by Lars Graff, director of the tournament in Beijing, who gave him what should be the mascot of the event. The blue one had a few words with Graff before he reached the hotel where he will stay. Hilarious then the clip in which the world number one greets the expected crowd at the tournament with a couple of sentences pronounced in Chinese.

Defending the title at the China Open, a tournament that launched the native of San Candido to the top of the ATP ranking, will be the first meeting in the east for the Italian champion, who will then be engaged at the Masters 1000 in Shanghai, where he lost last year in the round of 16 to American ace Ben Shelton.

Based on the results he will get in these two tournaments, Sinner may decide to participate in Erste Bank Open of Vienna, the other ‘500’ won by the Italian in the end of 2023. Then there will be the Master 1000 in Paris Bercy (where Jannik retired before the round of 16 against De Minaur), the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Finals with the national team. A final tour de force to give yourself more joy in a vintage already framed.

Carreno Busta defends Jannik

During a recent interview with Punto de Break, Spanish veteran Pablo Carreno Busta opened up on Sinner’s controversy: “The important thing for him is to have a clear conscience, to know what he did and did not do, to be aware of what happened. In the end, much of what he is accused of is due to the process, but I have no idea how it went, either his or any other processes. These things are hard to explain, but if the commission that has studied it says he’s not guilty, then we have to give him credibility, trust this process. If we are suspicious of everything, we can go crazy.”

He continued: “Sinner and Alcaraz are still very young. They are obviously very good, but we already assume that they will rule for the next 20 years as Roger, Rafa and Novak have. Many things can happen, it is not easy to maintain the level of demand for so long, or the level of success to share the four Grand Slams, as happened this year. New people may also appear, another very good player may appear with four years less than Carlos, for example. I don’t think the future belongs to these two players alone, others will come and make it harder for them, but it seems that these two will be there for many years.”
