Last June 4, at the end of the match for access to the semifinals of the French Open, Jannik Sinner discovered on the court that he had become the new ATP number 1.
“Thanks to my team, it would all be impossible without them. And thanks to the fans. It’s a special moment for me, I’m happy to share it with you and with those watching me at home: let’s see what I can do on Friday,” said the Italian to the applause of everyone present on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
The date that has entered forever into the history of Italian tennis, however, is 06/10/2024. It was on that Monday that Sinner officially conquered the top of the ATP ranking: the first Italian capable of accomplishing a feat of such importance.

On the eve of the Australian Open 2025, where he will try to defend the title won in 2024, Sinner has spent 31 consecutive weeks looking down on everyone: only seven players have reached this milestone – for the moment – after becoming the leaders of the ranking for the first time in their career.
These are Roger Federer (237 weeks), Jimmy Connors (160), Lleyton Hewitt (75), Novak Djokovic (53), Rafael Nadal (46), Andy Murray (41) and Ilie Nastase (40).
Sinner has a 4195 point advantage over Alexander Zverev, the current world number one, and will certainly improve his personal record.
We also recall Jannik will have to face the CAS watchdog about the Clostebol doping scandal. After being found innocent by an independent tribunal ITIA – after failing two doping tests at Indian Wells – WADA appealed the ruling, asking for a 1-2 year ban for the Italian.
Jannik could likely be sidelined for 2-3 months, with a risk of a ban of up to 6 months. This is in relation to the serious allegations of negligence made by WADA.
