It had never happened before in the history of tennis; Jannik Sinner has become the first tennis player ever to win two Slams, the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup in the same season. A new record – the one achieved in Malaga – that certified a crazy season. No one previously – not even tennis players like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer – had ever managed to achieve this incredible milestone.
The contribution of the ATP No.1 – together with that of Matteo Berrettini – was fundamental for team Italy to reconfirm the title won last season also this year. Jannik dominated the three singles matches he played and was also fundamental in doubles, together with Berrettini, on the occasion of the quarterfinals; a crucial obstacle that the Italians were able to overcome to sacrifice themselves towards the second consecutive success at the Davis Cup Finals.

“There were still some things I could have done better during the year but there were many important results and emotions. I lived a year with many difficulties, I’m super happy. I came here because I wanted to participate and defend this title, and we did it. The whole team gave more than 100%, it’s a victory that was not at all a given. We are happy to be in this position again, of course it’s a great feeling to end the season with such joy by winning the Davis Cup,” said Sinner at the end of the event.
We recall Jannik closed the season winning 8 titles, among which the Australian Open, the US Open, the ATP Finals, the ATP Masters 1000s in Miami, Cincinnati and Shanghai and becoming for the first time No.1 of the ATP ranking. At the same time, the Italian is facing the controversial doping issue, after the positive doping found at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells: WADA, in its appeal to the CAS, has asked for 1-2 years of disqualification for the young Italian.
