Jannik Sinner highlights the importance of surrounding yourself with trusted people

Jannik Sinner will come back to the court for the Australian Open 2025 as a defending champion. The ATP number 1 will participate in the Opening Week in the week before the start of the Happy Slam, where he played the first match against Alexei Popyrin, challenge won by the ATP No.1 in two sets.

On Friday instead the other challenge against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. These are the first tests for the Italian champion, who has decided not to take part in any official commitment before Melbourne.

A well-calibrated decision for the 23-year-old, who will find himself defending a Major title for the first time in his career.
Interviewed by the organizers of the tournament based in Melbourne, the 23-year-old spoke about the importance of surrounding yourself with important people.

“I love those around me today, those who trust me first of all as a person, even within the situation I experienced last year and that I am still experiencing. I try to surround myself with people who trust me, with whom I can feel confident: my aunt was one of these,” he analyzed, talking also about his beloved aunt died some month ago.

“It is important to spend Christmas with the family, but it was difficult after losing my aunt. She will always be in my heart, she is one of those special people that I will always keep with me. It was stressful to lose such an important person, who gave me so much advice and made me experience beautiful moments in her company. That’s why it was a strange Christmas,” he added.

The Italian then explained the choice to play only two unofficial matches before the debut in Melbourne.

“I have the opportunity to play a couple of exhibition matches before the tournament starts and I hope to be able to find my rhythm again since I haven’t played since last year. I have the same hotel room as last year, although I’m trying to diversify and enrich my preparation day by day. Nadal had the same driver for 20 years to get from the hotel to the court? Well, he was a lucky driver,” said Sinner.
