Jannik Sinner’s suspension began on February 9, so a month has already passed, and will end on May 4.
After the premature elimination of world number 2 Alexander Zverev at the ‘BNP Paribas Open’ in Indian Wells, the Italian ace is almost certain to still be the leader of the ATP rankings when he makes his return to the professional tour.
The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria is training mainly from an athletic point of view in recent weeks, making use of the help of his fitness coach Marco Panichi and his physiotherapist Ulises Badio. The feeling is that this period of suspension – although it was not desirable for different reasons – may allow the 3-time Grand Slam champion to file some small details and become even more unstoppable.
Jannik’s numbers in the last year have been truly impressive from all points of view and not even the same related to the doping case has prevented him from demolishing one opponent after another, totaling nine titles and suffering only six defeats from January 2024 until today.
Sinner could practice with Thiem
As everyone knows, Sinner cannot practice with professional players and must train in private facilities until April 13, but he may have found his ideal sparring partner.
On social media, a photo was published that portrays the world number 1 while he dines together with former Austrian champion Dominic Thiem in Monte Carlo. In addition to the winner of the 2020 US Open there is also his brother Moritz and Stefan Herzog (manager of the Austrian).
Thiem – who said goodbye to the professional tour in the latter part of 2024 after being defeated by Luciano Darderi in Vienna – could be the right partner to allow Jannik not to lose pace during this difficult period.
Sinner and Thiem have always had a great relationship both on and off the tennis court, although they have never faced each other in an official match.
The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria had spent beautiful words towards the Austrian when he retired in front of his fans in Vienna.
