Jannik Sinner beat Ben Shelton, qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Rolex Masters, in a rematch of last year’s challenge won by the young American.
Jannik, at the media interview after the challenge, analyzed the changes that have occurred in the last year and the high and constant performance that the young Italian expressed in the most difficult and important moments of the match.
“I fought a lot to get into good form at this stage of the season, I think the program was very good. Of course you don’t have to take into account just one match but it was a very tough challenge. He had chances in both sets, if I don’t play well these points he can also win in two sets also because he served very well. I’m happy with how I handled this situation, compared to last year many things have changed.
You have to be ready every day and accept every challenge. It will always be tougher on the court and you have to be ready to face the challenges, especially mentally. That’s what I’m trying to do. Getting to the quarterfinals in every event is not easy but that’s where the tournament becomes more interesting and I’m happy to have reached the top eight of the tournament,” he analyzed.

Sinner then faced the next opponent who awaits him in the quarterfinals: Daniil Medvedev. The Italian and Russian will face each other for the 5th time in 2024 and the 14th time in their rivalry, with Medevdev leading 7-6. Jannik revealed that the Russian will make some changes to his tennis in the match that awaits him against the Italian.
“We know what to expect, we know it will be a tough match. He will make some changes compared to our last matches and I will do the same, we will see what comes out of this match. It will be a tough match mentally and tactically, we will see how things end”, explained the Italian tennis player.
