Jannik Sinner reveals his biggest regret from nearly-flawless season

Jannik Sinner is a happy camper at the end of 2024! The 23-year-old Italian embraced a historic season, winning 73 of 79 matches and lifting eight ATP titles and the Davis Cup crown. Sinner will enter the 2025 season with a massive lead over his closest rivals.

However, the two-time Major winner would love to change one of his 2024 results. His only regret is related to Wimbledon and that epic quarter-final duel against Daniil Medvedev. The Italian gave everything in a 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 loss after four hours.

Jannik struggled physically but fought like a lion. He missed set points in the third set and fell in the decider despite a flawless performance in set number four.

What went wrong for Jannik versus Daniil?

Sinner performed well throughout the season, but he could not present his A-game against Medvedev at the All England Club. The Italian did not sleep well the night before the match, and he looked dizzy on the court. Hoping to extend his chances, Jannik took a medical timeout and fought well until the end.

He left the court in the third set for further checks but returned and missed opportunities. Thus, Sinner experienced his first loss as world no. 1 despite taking four points more than his opponent. He produced more efficient numbers behind the first and second serve.

However, they both produced three breaks of serve, and Daniil made the difference with a single return game in the decider. Despite all the issues, Jannik landed 61 winners and 45 unforced errors, leaving his rival on a 56-46 ratio. World no. 1 played better in the quickest exchanges.

Medvedev buffered the deficit in the more advanced ones, keeping his composure after the fourth set and emerging at the top.
