Jannik Sinner reveals what he would change about the ATP schedule

Jannik Sinner – on a specific question from a journalist in a press conference following the young Italian’s qualification for the Shanghai Rolex Masters 4th round – analyzed the much-discussed ATP tennis schedule.

The ATP No.1 also said that he would change a detail of the format that currently engages tennis players for almost 11 months a year. Anyway we have to underline how the controversies and criticisms related to the ATP schedule is destinated to be one of the main topics on the season.

“We have a lot of tournaments, that’s for sure. It would be ideal if there was no Davis Cup after the ATP Finals. I think that’s definitely something I would change in the program. The rest we can still choose as players, if I play in Beijing or if I play here. I feel like this season we chose the tournaments, there was no problem in that sense. We have the ATP Masters 1000 series which is mandatory but, for example, I could choose if I play in Beijing before an ATP Masters 1000 or not,” explained the Italian.

Jannik also stressed the importance of the rest day, analyzing: “I definitely try to sleep late in the morning, I have to see if I will play tennis tomorrow or not. That will be another question, because I feel like I played a lot last week. I feel like it’s important now to try to recover. Maybe I will do some gym, I will evaluate a bit together with my team.”

On Tuesday, Sinner will return to the court to face the round of 16 against the winner of the challenge between Ben Shelton and Roberto Carballes Baena, who will meet today, Monday 7 October 2024. It would be a real remake exactly one year later if the American were to confirm his performance, thus becoming one of the most interesting round of 16 in the main draw of the Shanghai Rolex Masters.
