Jessica Pegula came through big time for all Austin finalists as the American tennis star offered everyone a free ride on her private jet from Texas to Indian Wells.
On Sunday, the world No. 4 beat McCartney Kessler 7-5 6-2 in the final of the WTA 250 tournament in Austin.
After the singles final, Kessler returned to the court with Zhang Shuai for the doubles final against Yue Yuan and Anna Blinkova.
While in Austin, the doubles finalists were discussing among themselves what was the best way to get to Indian Wells, where the tournament starts on Wednesday.
And Pegula caught the wind of that and offered help.
“The final day girls discuss how to fly to IW, many different ways, some leave from Austin/Houston/Dallas, some might need to transfer to LA in the middle of the night,” Zhang wrote on Instagram.
“Because tough to get a flight after the doubles final. In the meantime @jpegula offers everyone who played in the Sunday final to join her private jet, you know she can leave away right after her singles final but she is such a selfless and generous girl.”
Pegula melted over the Zhang post
After reading what the Chinese had to say about her act, the 31-year-old American definitely felt very grateful.
“Shuai you are too cute,” the 2024 US Open runner-up wrote in the comment section of the post.
Meanwhile, Pegula will be hoping to continue her fine form in Indian Wells, where she is the No. 4 seed and has a first-round bye before facing the winner of the match between Peyton Stearns and Magda Linette.
In her past six appearances in the desert, the American only once made the quarterfinal – that result came in 2021.
