Joao Fonseca has the right skills to become one of the best players in the world and everyone is convinced that his future will be bright. The triumph at the Next Gen Finals in Jeddah at the end of 2024 has definitively unlocked him, as evidenced by the victory at the Canberra Challenger earlier this year.
Joao made it through the Australian Open qualifiers without dropping a set, before defeating Russian ace Andrey Rublev in his main draw debut.
Last month, Fonseca lifted his first ATP trophy at just 18 years old by playing sensational tennis in Buenos Aires and showing that he has no fear of pressure.
Fonseca wants to improve quickly
The 18-year-old Brazilian is playing the ‘BNP Paribas Open’ at Indian Wells now and defeated British ace Jacob Fearnley in three sets after a very tough battle.
The conditions were not easy due to the wind, but Fonseca continued to play bravely and prevailed despite the many ups and downs.
At the end of the match, Fonseca was happy with his victory but was not satisfied with his performance. For this reason, he asked his team members to book a court to conduct a practice session just 20 minutes after his first-round match.

Joao’s next opponent in California will be another British ace – Jack Draper – who is playing very well and has the weapons to be really dangerous on this surface.
The 2024 US Open semifinalist has also had several injuries in the first two months of 2025, but he is finding his best form again and wants to achieve a prestigious result here.
