John Daly is a man who left a huge mark on the golf scene and amazed sports fans week after week. In recent years, Daly has attracted attention in completely different ways, but this is also what makes him unique and different from others.
In his long career, John has faced many things, and special moments are those he shared with Tiger Woods on golf courses.
During the Like a Framer Podcast, the host was asked what was the greatest story from his career.
Although at the beginning Daly wasn’t quite open to share his story, he later opened up.
“I can’t say that on the show,” he joked, but continued.
“I was playing the Nike Tour, back in 1990 I think it was, and we got to Texarkana Country Club.
A little kid 12, 13 years old. I’m playing with him and people were talking how great he’s going to be and all this. And I’m excited, right? It was Tiger Woods.”- he said, as quoted by Talk Sport.
John Daly continues his story
The famous golfer wanted to see for himself Tiger’s quality, aware of the hype around Tiger back then. However, Daly was the main actor in this story, considering the great shot, which probably amazed even the then little Woods, who was marked as the greatest potential in the world of golf.
Tiger fulfilled such expectations, and even more.
“They were playing — I can’t remember what the junior tournament was called — but it was a big one. It goes all over the world.
I meet this kid. We get on this par three of Texarkana Country Club. I don’t know. It was like 210, 215 yards, and I had a five iron. He’s watching. I had a Maxfli. I hit this ball, the rubber band came flying out of the ball. And it got to the front of the green.
And Tiger, to this day… I ask him, ‘what’s the greatest shot you ever saw in golf?’ He’ll say that shot.”- he concluded.
John Daly had only words of praise for Tiger Woods, stressing that he always knew that Tiger would have a great career. The two of them had the opportunity to share moments together, and they both left a special mark, there is no doubt about that.
