Jordan Spieth says Augusta is “blown up more than it probably should be”

The Players Championship is a tournament that does not make all golfers happy or evoke positive emotions. Playing in this tournament is challenging, it means that you have to stay focused from the first day to the last.

Jordan Spieth is one of the golfers who is not particularly delighted to play at TPC Sawgrass. The American golfer admits that sometimes he cannot understand where the problem lies, but it is clear that this course does not evoke positive emotions for him.

“I come in here, I’ve got to be striping it to make the cut,” he said, as quote by Golf.

“I’ll go play [the Valspar Championship] and I’ll be like, Okay, I shot three under. I’ve got a good gauge on where I’m at. I’ll go [to Sawgrass] and I shot a couple under in the first round, Oh, I’m in 28th!? Like what just happened? I don’t know what the deal is here.”

Jordan Spieth isn’t too worried about how his form will reflect on playing at the Masters. Spieth is a golfer who managed to win this tournament, and his great performances there, even when he was not in great shape, give reason for optimism. Spieth believes he can make a success of this Major

“I think the fact that I’ve been there when I’ve been playing poorly and played well and had a chance to win, now I’m like, Well, I don’t really care how I’m playing,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter. That’s a nice place to be.”

Joran Spieth talks about Masters pressure

The biggest pressure this year, just like the previous ones, will be on Rory McIlroy, the golfer who wants to complete the Grand Slam by winning the Masters. Jordan Spieth reflected on such pressure, stressing that the media and others are ‘blowing up’ the importance of this competition, although he believes that this tournament is not difficult to win at all.

“Augusta’s just blown up more than it probably should be,” Spieth said. “In that sense, it gets blown up towards Rory. Majors are majors. Augusta’s — you know, if you look at the field, it’s technically the easiest major to win, so the more I think someone focuses on that, the better.” – he concluded.
