Karolina Pliskova out of Australian Open; underlines one thing amid surgery recovery

Karolina Pliskova is out of the Australian Open and the former world No. 1 has also indicated that she will miss at least the first two months of the 2025 season and try to return to action during the Sunshine Double.

In late August, the Czech tennis star overcame Mayar Sherif in a tight three-set battle before pulling out of her second-round match against Jasmine Paolini. After that, the two-time Grand Slam finalist decided to surgically repair damage on her left ankle.

In recent years, Pliskova also battled some other injuries – most notably the wrist issue that forced her to miss the 2022 Australian Open.

“I can’t run yet and we’re quite far from tennis. I don’t want to rush anything. I already made a mistake with my hand – I played in pain for a month and a half, and I still didn’t win anything.  It doesn’t make sense. So I’ll take the protected ranking and come back in March for Indian Wells and Miami, maybe. Of course, if another snag doesn’t appear,” the 2019 Australian Open semifinalist told Czech media.

Pliskova underlines her intention is not only to return for the sake of returning

Since reaching the 2021 Wimbledon final, the 32-year-old hasn’t had much success but injuries contributed to that. But even though her situation is all but ideal, the current world No. 41 highlighted to her fans that she wants to do some big things again.

“I don’t want to end up sidelined by injury or just surviving on the court. I just want to get back to normal and play some more,” she added.

In 2024, Pliskova struggled with consistency and posted a 20-16 record. However, she was still able to make two notable results – the Czech won the WTA 250 tournament in Cluj-Napoca and also made the Nottingham final.
