Former British tennis star Laura Robson agrees a potential Nick Kyrgios and Jannik Sinner Australian Open matchup could be really entertaining but also told her recent colleague that she would not like to see “the respect go out of the window.”
As you have probably heard or read, the Australian tennis star publicly stated that his wish is to play the world No. 1 in Melbourne and try to turn every single person in the crowd against him. Also, the 29-year-old indicated that some disrespect would probably be involved in the process.
Robson, who covered with Kyrgios some Grand Slam tournaments for Eurosport this year, was asked to share her take on that statement.
“I don’t think you ever want a situation where all respect goes out the window. If we can avoid that, that would be great,” the former world No. 27 told Eurosport.

Robson: If it happened and Kyrgios made it close enough…
Further addressing the prospect of the two facing, the Briton said that clash could be “really interesting,” especially if they met in earlier rounds and Sinner was maybe still trying to find his rhythm.
“I think it would have to be close enough for the crowd to get that involved, wouldn’t it? It would have to get to a tight score line and something that they can grab onto. I want to say he’s got that challenge on his hands first to keep it really close, and then we’ll see. Because we know that Sinner is going to be sharp in that situation, too,” Robson added.
Kyrgios has been one of the harshest critics of the Italian’s doping case since it was made public.
The former WTA star and current Eurosport expert also shared her thoughts on that, acknowledging that it is not a secret that the Australian is “opinionated” but also applauded the Italian for how he has been dealing with everything over the last couple of months.
