The complete calendar of the 2025 LIV Golf season was announced yesterday.

The Saudi League led (for a short time) by Greg Norman, has once again shuffled the cards on the table, adding new destinations for the Invitationals to the confirmation of some stages.

Hosting a stage of the LIV circuit is no longer a taboo for clubs, as it seemed in 2022, the debut year of the League.

Let’s start with the stages that have not been confirmed.

Liv, calendar

This year, LIV will not pass through Mayakoba (Mexico), Las Vegas, Jeddah, Houston, Nashville and Greenbrier.

Of the eight confirmed locations, only four will maintain last year’s time slot, while the other four will undergo changes related to the inclusion of the rookie stages.

But let’s see which are the debutants.

Mexico will still be present with the Mexico City stage, at the Club de Chapultepec, which from 2017 to 2020 hosted the WGC-Mexico Championship (a tournament that “ousted” the WGC that had been held for years at Doral in Miami, Editor’s note).

Riyadh will replace Jeddah for the Invitational in Saudi Arabia.

The United States loses a stage, by virtue of the entry of South Korea into the calendar, at the Jack Nicklaus Course in Incheon.

Of the three new US stages, two enter the calendar with a bang, as they will host the final phase of the season: Indianapolis (The Club at Chatham Hills) will close the individual rankings, while Michigan (The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort) will host the Team Championship.

The third and final new event on US soil is still a highly prestigious location: the Robert Trent Jones Club in Gainesville hosted the Solheim Cup last September, won by Team USA after 7 years.

The early framework for a new golf tour to rival the PGA Tour became public in 2019 with announcement of a league to be known as the Premier Golf League. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan responded by implying that golfers who choose to play in a new league would be barred from PGA Tour events. Later in 2020, the PGA European Tour and the PGA Tour formed a “strategic alliance” to work together on commercial opportunities, scheduling, and prize funds for each tour’s membership.

The Premier held talks with Saudi investors about a financial partnership, but Golf Saudi (a division of the Public Investment Fund) instead funded a new entity in 2020 which had its own plan to establish a global professional league, often referred to as the “Super Golf League”. This entity formally launched in October 2021 as LIV Golf Investments,[8] with former professional golfer Greg Norman named as CEO.

The rules are relatively complicated compared to other sports because they are played outdoors, close to nature and animals. Respecting the rules is a basic element in the game of golf, which, almost always based on self-control and the free conscience of the players, often sees distorted results, sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously or through carelessness, due to the non-observance by many players of the rules of the game. In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, known as etiquette, which generally means playing the game with due respect for the golf course and other players. Etiquette is an essential component of this sport.
