LIV golfer Cameron Smith: I want to win the majors

Cameron Smith’s decision to join LIV Golf two years ago sent shockwaves through the golf world. Many fans expected the talented Australian to remain loyal to the PGA Tour, where he had been building a successful career. When he announced his move to LIV Golf, Smith was one of the top players on the PGA Tour, and officials had high hopes for his future in the sport.

However, the offer he received from LIV Golf was simply too good to refuse. 31 years old Smith has been showing impressive performance on the LIV circuit. Despite this, some critics argue that he has become less visible because of his choice to play there. Smith, on the other hand, doesn’t share this view; he’s focused on winning Majors in the future and proving his worth on a bigger stage.

“I want to prove that I’m still a great player and that I can win all the big tournaments and the Majors.”-Cameron Smith said, as quoted by Golf Monthly.

There’s a lot of attention on LIV golfers and their performances at the Majors these days. Many fans find the Majors even more exciting now that there’s competition between players from two different tours. However, most LIV golfers still face challenges in qualifying for these big events, mainly because the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) hasn’t awarded points to LIV Golf yet. While there are specific ways some individuals can play, the reality is that many of them won’t have the chance to compete in the Majors for a while.

Interestingly, two LIV golfers, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, have each won a Major, which has inspired others on the LIV tour to believe they can achieve similar success. Cameron Smith has expressed pride in Koepka’s accomplishments, emphasizing that LIV Golf has talented players who can make a huge impact in the sport.

As the competition continues, it will be interesting to see how LIV golfers adapt and whether they can break through in future Majors, proving that they belong on the biggest stages in golf.

“It was nice to see Brooks take one for the team at last year’s PGA and get that first Major for a LIV player. Bryson continued that as well. Hopefully we can get into a routine here where we can all knock off a few more Majors in the future.”- he continued.

Cameron Smith expressed that being close to winning a Major multiple times has been encouraging for him. He remains hopeful that he will eventually secure a Major title. He mentioned that many players share a strong desire to win Majors, and the competition is intense. Having had a taste of success before makes him even more eager to achieve it again. If given the chance to win another Major, he specifically mentioned that he would love it to be at Augusta, as he has a deep respect for that venue.

Cameron Smith stressed that all the Majors are exciting and attractive, not just for him but for every golfer. It’s clear that many players push themselves to their limits when competing in these prestigious tournaments, fully aware of the importance and rewards that come with winning.

However, there’s a question about what kind of perspective Smith has now that he’s playing on LIV Golf and whether he can still compete with the best in the game. Only time will tell how this journey unfolds for him. As he continues to showcase his skills, fans are waiting to see how he adapts and performs in future competitions.

Cameron Smith on joining LIV Golf

In November of last year, Cameron Smith shared his thoughts on why he made the switch to LIV Golf during an appearance on the Australian Best of ABC Sport podcast. He expressed that he feels no regrets about his decision. He underscored the excitement of playing in front of his home crowd in Adelaide and mentioned that it was a lot of fun to participate in an event there, with plans to return next year.

His dream has always been to perform in front of the Australian crowd, which has shown many times so far how much it respects Smith, and how much he is a favorite sportsman in this country. Cameron knew how to thank the audience in the best way, and LIV Golf plans to hold events in Australia in the coming years and make golf a global sport.

Additionally, Smith appreciated the chance to have an off-season at home in Australia, something he hadn’t experienced in a long time. General, he seems very satisfied with his choice and the opportunities it has provided.
