Mahut explains what Alexander Zverev has to do against Jannik Sinner

The men’s final of the 2025 Australian Open is imminent and everyone is wondering who will be the champion of this edition. There is no doubt that the top favorite is current world No.1 Jannik Sinner, who has been virtually unstoppable over the past twelve months and who wants to win his third Grand Slam in a row on this surface.

The Italian ace has raised his level as the rounds have gone by and his performances in the quarterfinals and semifinals have really impressed everyone. The only delicate moment for Jannik during the tournament was the malaise he suffered against Rune in the round of 16, before reacting like a great champion and prevailing in four sets.

The 2-time Grand Slam champion will have to be very careful with Sascha Zverev in the final, because the German ace is a man on a mission right now and wants to finally break the curse that haunts him in the Major tournaments.

Alexander is also very well physically, having played only one set in the semifinals due to Novak Djokovic’s retirement due to an adductor injury. The player from Hamburg has been very solid in this tournament and has followed up on the progresses of the last few months.

Nicolas Mahut on the AO men’s final

Interviewed by Eurosport, former world number 1 in doubles Nicolas Mahut expressed his opinion about the AO men’s final: “I think the time has come for Sascha to win his first Grand Slam title. He has been working on his game in recent months and has further improved physically thanks to Jez Green.

Sinner is the favorite for the reasons we all know, having had an incredible rise in the last year. However, the German is ahead in the h2h and has already beaten him in the Slams. The longer the match, the more chances Sascha will have.

The Italian has never won a match that lasted more than four hours and his record in the fifth set challenges is not positive. To try to achieve the feat and lift his first Major, Zverev will have to try to extend the match.”
