Martina Navratilova hits back at Joao Fonseca’s troll with brutal line

Martina Navratilova noticed a person on X making a nonsense comment about Joao Fonseca and the former 18-time Grand Slam champion made sure to put the critic in place.

Last week, the 18-year-old became an ATP champion after beating Francisco Cerundolo in the final of the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires.

By doing so, the rising star became the seventh-youngest titlist on the Tour, joining some big names such as Rafael Nadal.

But reacting to it, one person called Fonseca “a convicted felon.”

“You’re convicted felon,” the person in question wrote.

Navratilova seemingly couldn’t believe what she was reading and fired back: “And you’re an a–.”

Of course, there is probably no even need to mention that Fonseca doesn’t have a criminal record.

And if he did have one, he would be serving time and not competing on the ATP Tour.

So it was nothing else but an absolutely egregious comment made by a social media troll.

Fonseca on his newfound fame

After drawing attention to himself with his outstanding performance in a three-set win over Andrey Rublev in the Australian Open first round as a qualifier, the Brazilian continued his rise.

And after triumphing in Buenos Aires, some of the biggest names of the Brazilian sports reached out to congratulate.

For Fonseca, all of this seems a bit surreal.

“I feel very honored by the messages I got from local and international idols, to know that they know who I am. Guys like Neymar, Vini Jr, Ronaldo,” the 18-year-old said.

“They are idols, people that I consider untouchable. And also to see kids saying that I’m their idol is just crazy. I’m very happy with everything that’s happening.”

This week, he is competing in Rio de Janeiro, where he plays Alexandre Muller in the first round.
