Martina Navratilova has harshly attacked WADA and, at the same time, she defended Jannik Sinner. The WTA legend was very harsh about how the World Anti-Doping Agency handled the Clostebol doping issue of the young Italian, who had previously been acquitted by an independent tribunal commissioned by ITIA.
The 18-time Grand Slam champion, already last September, appeared rather annoyed by the news of the appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The case of the ATP number 1, found positive twice for Clostebol has nothing to do with doping, according to Navratilova.
“This is madness. WADA is a disaster. Chinese swimmers are calm and now this? What a terrible system we have,” she wrote at the time.

Guest on TC Live, her words have sounded even more harsh and decisive: “I won’t be very diplomatic about this and I’ll tell you that this whole thing stinks. The whole system needs to be blown up and we need to start from scratch. Right now, WADA is under observation for what it did with Chinese athletes, or rather, it would be better to say what it didn’t do.
The Sinner and Swiatek’s cases have nothing to do with doping. Instead of really trying to find who is cheating, we focus on massage creams or a sleeping pill, taken for five years and now found to be contaminated. The idea now is that athletes are guilty until they prove their innocence.
Sinner thought his case was over and now he finds himself having to deal with an appeal. But why? It’s something I don’t understand. But I think this case needs to be clarified as soon as possible.”
