Mats Wilander predicts Novak Djokovic’s comeback: ‘He is still incredible at 37’

Mats Wilander still considers Novak Djokovic a threat at Majors in 2025, especially at Wimbledon! The Swede praised the Serb and his abilities at 37, describing the legend as someone who pushes tennis boundaries.

While recovering from injuries takes longer at Novak’s age, Mats is confident about his chances at notable tournaments this season if he stays healthy. Djokovic failed in his quest for the 11th Australian Open title in Melbourne last week.

The Serb experienced a hamstring injury against Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-final. Despite the pain in his left leg, the veteran toppled the young gun in four sets and reached the semi-final.

Novak did not train on Wednesday and Thursday, trying everything to recover and preserve energy for his next duel. Djokovic fought valiantly against Alexander Zverev before losing the opening set 7-6 in 80 minutes.

The veteran felt increasing pain in his leg and retired at Majors for the first time since 2019, sending the German into the final. The 24-time Major winner took an MRI, which revealed a hamstring injury in his left thigh.

Novak withdrew from the upcoming Davis Cup clash against Denmark. His participation at the upcoming ATP 500 event in Doha is also in doubt.

“Novak will come back and manage his schedule. He will likely play in ten or 11 tournaments. His level is still high, and he should be a threat at the other three Majors, especially Wimbledon. However, recovery at his age should take longer.

He will keep going as long as possible, and the motivation should not be a problem. Novak is pushing tennis boundaries by playing at a high level at 37. He claimed three Major titles in 2023 and still looks incredible,” Mats Wilander said.
