The Miami Premier Padel P1 began on Tuesday, March 18 in the beautiful city in Florida, which organized the event down to the smallest detail and chose a legend of this sport like Fernando Belasteguin as tournament director.
The best padel player of all time – who retired at the end of last year after a legendary career – has decided to put his experience at the disposal of the international federation and there is no doubt that his contribution will be decisive for the further growth of the sport.
For several years now, padel has been trying to ‘conquer’ the United States and Miami seems to be the perfect city for the start of this journey. It is no coincidence that world number 1 Arturo Coello decided to move to Miami earlier this year, with the aim of practicing in innovative facilities and helping the development of his sport in this prestigious market.
Andreeva and Errani love padel
In these first days of the tournament, several VIPs have been spotted in the stands. Gianluca Vacchi is a huge fan of padel and is a very close friend of Belasteguin, having also taken part in the ceremony in his honor held in Barcelona at the end of 2024.
Tennis champion Sara Errani also visited the Miami Beach Convention Center and revealed her intention to play padel full-time after she says goodbye to professional tennis.
The Italian player – who won the gold medal in doubles together with Jasmine Paolini at the Paris 2024 Olympics – loves padel and never misses an opportunity to promote this sport.
“I’m doing this for fun. I don’t have a staff or a permanent partner, and for now, I don’t have ranking goals. But I feel that when I stop playing tennis, I want to dedicate myself to padel full-time” – Sara explained.
The fact that padel has ‘conquered’ Miami was certified by the fact that Coello played with Mirra Andreeva, a young star of the women’s tennis tour who left everyone speechless by winning two WTA 1000 in a row at just 17 years old.
