Nick Kyrgios fires stern warning to critics while laying out comeback plans

Nick Kyrgios is coming back and with a vengeance as the Australian tennis star reveals he will be on a quest to win a Grand Slam and “shut up doubters.”

Since a career-best year in 2022, the 29-year-old has dealt with serious knee and wrist injuries, which led to him appearing in just one official tournament during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

While sidelined, the former world No. 13 managed to keep himself busy as he has been working in tennis broadcasting and also hosting a podcast.

Kyrgios may be doing well off the court and making money but his pro career still isn’t over because he believes he still has some unfinished business.

“I am coming back because something is keeping me around the game. I have beaten pretty much every person that has been put in front of me, made a final of a Grand Slam, won a doubles title in a Grand Slam, won multiple titles and made money. But I think the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day. That’ll be my deep motivation,” the Australian told Code Sports.

When will Kyrgios be back?

So far, it is known that the seven-time ATP champion is definitely planning to play the Australian Open in January. Also, there are some rumors indicating that he will play at the World Tennis League in December.

After becoming a Grand Slam doubles champion with Thanasi Kokkinakis at the 2022 Australian Open, the 29-year-old also made his first Slam singles final at Wimbledon.

Although Kyrgios competed extremely well against Novak Djokovic and played at a very high level throughout the match, he still lost in four sets.

That same year, the Australian won the ATP 500 tournament in Washington and also clinched multiple top-10 wins.

It will be interesting to see if Kyrgios can regain his past form when he returns from two surgeries.
