No.1 Texas starts 2025 by ‘destroying’ ACU 7-0

No.1 Texas men’s tennis team picked up its second win in two days, slamming ACU 7-0 at the Texas Tennis Center on Sunday, starting 2025 off on a high note. Texas will return to the Texas Tennis Center courts on Wednesday 15 January 2025 at 4:00 p.m. CT vs. UTRGV.

The Longhorns dominated in doubles and got singles wins from Lucas Brown, Sebastian Gorzn, Sebastian Eriksson, Jonah Braswell, Oliver Ojakaar and Pierre-Yves Bailly.

After the Longhorns won the doubles point, Brown got things started quickly in singles with a doubles bagel win over Alejandro Verdasco, 6-0, 6-0. The match was tied in just three games, including the first two in which Brown broke and held. The other was for a 5-0 lead in the second set.

Gorzny then extended Texas’ lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Dennis Dutine. After Gorzny held and broke for a 2-0 lead, the players traded deuce breaks and Gorzny held again for a 4-1 lead. The win was then provided by Eriksson, who beat Benjamin McDonald, 6-1, 6-3.

The teams played the remaining matches, with Braswell taking first place among them with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Matheus Lima.

On Court 5, Ojakaar completed a 6-2, 6-3 win over Martin Delnido. Ojakaar broke first on deuce point for a 2-1 lead, and although Delnido broke back, Ojakaar won four straight games for the set. Bailly was tasked with closing out a 7-0 sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Tomas Tischner.
