Novak Djokovic follows Roger Federer’s Sunshine Double feat

Novak Djokovic failed to claim his 100th ATP title in Miami, falling to the young gun Jakub Mensik in the final after a massive battle. While leaving Florida without his seventh trophy, Novak collected notable milestones during his first Hard Rock Stadium visit.

With 11 Indian Wells and Miami Open titles by his name, Djokovic is the most decorated ‘Sunshine Double’ player. Last week, the Serb secured another notable milestone at two prestigious events, becoming the second player with 100 ‘Sunshine Double’ wins! reduced his ”

Roger Federer stands in front with 122, and Novak could have easily passed him in the previous years. However, the Serb reduced his ‘Sunshine Double’ in 2019, requiring six more years to reach the milestone number.

Djokovic stayed away from Indian Wells and Miami between 2020 and 2023. He returned to Indian Wells last year and suffered an early loss. The veteran decided to play both events this season, and the start was far from encouraging.

The five-time Indian Wells champion fell in the second round to a lucky loser Botic van de Zandschulp, remaining on 95 ‘Sunshine Double’ wins. However, Novak raised his level in Miami and ousted five rivals en route to his 60th Masters 1000 final.

Novak faced Sebastian Korda in the quarter-final and earned a 6-3, 7-6 triumph, serving well and moving into the last four. Djokovic faced his great friend Grigor Dimitrov in the semi-final and earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory in 70 minutes.

It was Novak’s milestone 100th win at ‘Sunshine Double.’ He earned it in style, overcoming a slow start and leaving his rival behind for a relaxed day at the office. The Serb chased his 100th ATP title against the 19-year-old Jakub Mensik.

The Czech held his nerves and defeated his idol 7-6, 7-6 in two hours and three minutes. They traded two breaks in the opening set and stayed neck and neck. However, Jakub played better in the pivotal moments and denied another massive milestone for the greatest player of all time.
