Ons Jabeur’s Miami Open journey came to a painful and premature end as the Tunisian star retired in the first set of her third-round match against Italy’s Jasmine Paolini. After just 31 minutes of play, Jabeur was forced to withdraw while trailing 4-3, citing a left leg injury.
After a first-round bye, seed No. 31 Jabeur defeated Katerina Siniakova 6-4 7-6(7), but then had to retire in the third round against Paolini. This photo shows her left leg being taped below the knee and Paolini and umpire Julie Kjendlie helping her walk off the court.
As the WTA highlighted, this was Paolini’s first win over a Top 30 player after five consecutive unsuccessful attempts. The sixth seed now advances to the round of 16, where she will face the winner of the match between Naomi Osaka and wildcard Hailey Baptiste.
