Pat Cash says Emma Raducanu “certainly has got the talent to compete at the top level” and even thinks the 22-year-old has more potential than world No. 8 and 2024 US Open semifinalist Emma Navarro.
Since winning the US Open in 2021, the Briton hasn’t made any finals but constant injuries which resulted in three separate surgeries played a part in that.
Last year, Raducanu was again limited to 13 tournaments but she avoided any serious injuries and showed signs of improvement in her game.
And now at the start of 2025, 1987 Wimbledon champion Cash thinks the British tennis player has all the reasons to be optimistic about her chances this season.
In the Australian tennis legend’s mind, there are only a few top players in the game – so if the 2021 US Open can stay healthy and regularly play – she could easily do some nice things.
Cash backs world No. 56 Raducanu for success
“She’s had half a decent year when she was able to play matches, but we have an opportunity here for a player like Emma to come through,” the 1987 Wimbledon winner told Tennis365.
“On both the men’s and women’s side of the draws, we have one or two players right at the top who have separated themselves, but there is a gap below that and players can come through to the latter stages of tournaments.
“We saw Navarro come through this year and Emma is definitely a better player than her. Navarro is tough, tricky and competitive, but Raducanu has more to her game.
“You just have to hope Emma stays fit and can get matches under her belt because she certainly has the talent to do very well.”

Unfortunately for Raducanu, her 2025 season started with a withdrawal after a back injury forced her to miss Auckland.
However, she has been back on the practice court in recent days and she should be ready for the Australian Open.
