PGA of America makes big change: New CEO arrives

The PGA of America has revealed who will succeed Seth Waugh as CEO. A few days ago, they made a move that caused many reactions. Namely, the leaders of this Tour decided to financially reward the US Ryder Cup team. Important names in the world of golf reacted negatively, believing they made a mistake.

Waugh has been one of the most important figures of the PGA for years, but it was clear that he would leave this position after statements made earlier this year.

Derek Sprague will succeed him in this position, with a great responsibility but also an honor.

Don Rea, PGA of America president, believes that this is a positive move, which will help them in the long run.

“To have a leader at the helm who knows every detail of the association and what it means to be a PGA of America member will enable our association to succeed far into the future.” – he said, as quoted by Golf Magic.

Derek Sprague shares his views

Derek Sprague stressed in a media interview that he is a person who has always wanted to bring people together around one thing. Sprague feels that this is the right moment for him to take on the position, at a time when the golf world is in a major transition. Derek wants PGA of America professionals to have significantly better conditions in the future. His experience and knowledge of the golf scene could be crucial for the progress of this sport.

“Throughout my career I have made it a priority to bring people together around a common cause.

At a time of profound change in golf, there is also great opportunity for our association and our members.

It is my task, alongside the officers and board, to elevate the profession of our more than 30,000 PGA of America golf professionals while ensuring the health of the association and its relationships within our industry.”- he said.

Sprague already has goals that he hopes to achieve.
